How May I Describe Thee?

Just 3 days away from Jackie’s 14th birthday, I awoke this morning thinking about combining her photograph with owls. I know she loves animals, so probably owls too. Then I remembered that the Greek Goddess Athena was associated with the owl (as well as was her Roman counterpart, Mineva). So I did some Wiki research on this…

Athena is the goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, just warfare, mathematics, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill.

In Greek mythology, a Little Owl (Athene noctua) traditionally represents or accompanies Athena, the virgin goddess of wisdom, or Minerva, her syncretic incarnation in Roman mythology. Because of such association, the bird — often referred to as the “owl of Athena” or the “owl of Minerva” — has been used as a symbol of knowledge, wisdom, perspicacity and erudition throughout the Western world.

Then for the owl as a totem spirit…

The owl spirit animal is emblematic of a deep connection with wisdom and intuitive knowledge. If you have the owl as totem or power animal, you’re likely to have the ability to see what’s usually hidden to most. When the spirit of the animal guides you, you can the true reality and see beyond illusion and deceit. The owl also offers for those who have it a personal totem the inspiration and guidance necessary to deeply explore the unknown and the magic of life. –source

  1. Beautifully done. Jackie’s love for the animals we share this planet with will go a long way in helping them survive our ravages upon the environment. Namaste 🙂
